True Story: A Cure to Relationship Hatred

A woman, distraught and filled with anger, went to her mother to complain. “Mom, I can’t stand my husband anymore. I want to kill him, but I’m afraid I’ll be arrested. Can you help me?”
Her mother listened calmly, then replied, “Yes, my daughter, I can. But there’s a condition. You’ll need to make peace with him so that when he dies, no one suspects you. You’ll have to present yourself as a good, caring wife. Be kind, grateful, patient, and affectionate. Be less selfish, fairer, and more attentive to him. Can you do this?”
“Yes, Mom,” the woman responded, determined.
“Alright, good,” her mother said, producing a small pouch. “Here’s this powder. Every day, sprinkle a little into his food, and he’ll die slowly.”
Thirty days later, the woman returned to her mother, her face transformed. “Mom, I truly don’t want to kill my husband anymore. I love him now; he’s changed and become gentler than before. How can I stop the poison from working? Please, help me!”
Her mother smiled warmly. “Don’t worry, my dear. What I gave you was just flour. He’s not going to die.” She paused, her gaze tender. “Actually, the poison was in you. When we fuel hatred and resentment, we slowly kill ourselves. But when you began to love and cherish your husband, you saw another person in him. This is how you must behave to find what you are looking for. Every human being is good, but it is we and society who sometimes make them change.”
